Freeze dried drones – just add water? | ZDNet

I think you have to be pretty gullible to buy this crock of stew, but let’s go with it. ZDNet tells us that some outfit claims the ability to grow drones from a vat of chemicals. Here’s what they say:

Scientists and engineers have been pondering the ways in which future UAVs could be manufactured — and this includes being “grown” in labs en masse through chemical vats.

It might sound like something out of Terminator, but BAE Systems said last week this could become a reality thanks to a new intelligent system called Chemputer.

The machine could harness advanced chemical processes to “grow” custom aircraft including electronics systems from the molecular level, according to the firm.

The idea may have its appeal, but it’s not really new.
